PROVIDING EDUCATION TO  KENYANS LIVING IN URBAN SLUMS

            About US

Urban Slums Education Development Programs (USEDP) is a community-based education organization dedicated to providing education to  Kenyans living in urban slums, with a particular focus on girls. The aim of the organization is to address the challenge of child poverty for girls living in the slums. We recognize that quality education is critical to addressing the challenges faced by Africa, and we are actively collaborating with the Mukuru Slums community on various education initiatives.

Urban Slums Education Development Programs are designed to address gender, social, cultural, and economic barriers that affect the ability of adolescent girls and young women to access education and employment opportunities and make critical decisions about things that affect their lives.

To achieve these goals, USEDP employs a comprehensive range of interventions, including teacher training, life skills education, media campaigns, community outreach and engagement for behaviour change, psychosocial support, mentorship programs, market-based skills training, and training in digital skills, the initiative not only supports girls and young women directly but also aims to address the root causes of inequality by challenging and helping to transform structural barriers and entrenched social norms, attitudes, and power relations that impact girls’ ability to thrive.

USEDP aims to reach a total of 40,000 adolescent girls and young women in Mukuru Slums.

What we do at a glance…

Access to Education

USEDP expands access to education for the most vulnerable children living in poverty in Slums in Kenya. USEDP advocates for a quality education for every child.

Psychosocial Support

In addition to Life Skills education, USEDP is working to increase the availability and quality of trauma-informed psychosocial support at the school level in Mukuru Slums.

Life Skills

USEDP  provides Life Skills education in dedicated girl-friendly spaces with the goal of supporting girls most at risk of dropping out of school to gain critical life skills.
